WHY A MASTERS PROGRAM?
We are all about un-doing the damage of mainstream education experiences on today’s adults. In the standard linear school systems, many of us learned reductionism instead of learning how to see interconnecting parts of a puzzle..
We learned to memorize more than we learned to think for ourselves. We learned to write in prescribed structures and to color in the lines. Schools shaped us into neater people, but we live in a messy world.
Mainstream education has traditionally been about control, conformity, and replication of the status quo. Thankfully, there are some progressive thinkers around the world working to evolve K-12 education - but for the most part it is still the same.
The current education system is in need of disruption. We are challenging stale modes of learning and the social construction that comes with it. We are encouraging a shift in the way we see, seek and exchange knowledge.
We are an “un-school” because we are a playful and provocative challenge to the ways in which we “school” and “un-school” ourselves, and those we influence.
Learning, sharing, curiosity, and active participation IN THE WORLD are lifelong pursuitS THAT WE AIM TO GLOBALLY ACTIVATE
The UnSchool Masters is a hybrid program, run through an online student portal for the majority of the year, plus two in-person residencies.
At the start of your program, you will be placed into cohorts to develop supportive peer groups during the year, and to grow your network and community while gaining skills and experience. Your Masters year will kick off with a week long in-person residency with your cohort either at our space in Portugal, or another selected city. This location may change depending on the cohort, and a second residency will take place near the end of your year. Location and dates will be announced soon, so keep checking this space.
The hybrid structure allows you to fit the majority of the program into your schedule and life, while still engaging in an immersive and transformative learning journey.
LEARN BY DOING
The UnSchool Masters is built on learning by doing, in partnership with your fellow peers for personal mastery and collaborative change skills. The program features curated facilitators to guide you through your experiences with videos, articles, speakers, and a series of real world action oriented group and independent projects.
Establishing your professional role as a creative change maker with the UnSchool Masters will be an intense and valuable year, informed by over +20k hours of our unique pedagogy to transfer knowledge and activate communities of people who want to design positive social and environmental change.
