INTERN WITH THE UNSCHOOL THIS SUMMER!
The UnSchool is on the search for powerhouse interns with no-bullshit attitudes, creative minds, get-shit-done skills and passion for activating positive social and environmental change! Interns can be based anywhere in the world (as long as you've got a strong Internet connection and are self-motivated) and will be working with our core team members to strategically evolve the UnSchool of Disruptive Design’s model, developing new offerings, reaching new audiences, and amplifying the voices of our global community of creative rebels and change makers.
Our internship program is about mutually-beneficial value exchanges whereby you not only get one-on-one support and work experience, but also access to our full online learning program and opportunities to participate in programs.
About our Programs
The UnSchool is an experimental knowledge lab for adults who want to activate their careers in positive social change. Our community is made up of designers, artists, innovators, social entrepreneurs, creative rebels and world-changing-types that want to disrupt the status quo and make the world work better for all of us.
We offer online, offline, and blended learning experiences for purpose-driven professionals looking to level up their changemaking skills. Our two core offline educational programs are: a weeklong fellowship for emerging leaders (that pops up around the world) and the Disruptive Design Workshop. The backbone of our programs and teaching is the Disruptive Design Methodology, developed by our founder (and UNEP Champion of the Earth), Dr. Leyla Acaroglu.
In addition to our core educational offerings, we also run and curate a slew of unique, fun and thought-provoking pop-up events to provoke thought and action, like our Secret Dinner Parties and Drink and Design Night. We’re currently working on our Labs model, through which our alumni are able to run UnSchool events, are developing a digital badging systems and will be rolling out a year-long alternative masters program in 2018. Our in-person programs (and team members) pop up all around the world -- engaging an international community of fellows, mentors and collaborators in our mission to seed, equip and activate global movement of creative change makers.
About our Team
We are a small, hard-working, and fast-paced team that breathes systems thinking and problem loving. As our team is scattered across different cities and often on the go, the internship can be done remotely-- we just ask for consistent availability (15+ hrs/week) and accountability (you can do this from your couch but it is important that you DO it). While we welcome applicants from all over the world, our team members will be based in London, Lisbon, Mexico City, Vancouver (BC), and Chapel Hill (North Carolina) this Summer – so if you happen to live in or near one of those cities, it’ll be a bonus ;)
We’re looking for creative and divergent thinkers with big ideas and burning passions -- interns who not only have the ambition to think big, but also the grit to get shit done. Self-starters with a hunger to learn. People who believe in what we’re doing and want to disrupt the status quo.
Roles will be crafted around the interns’ skillsets, strengths and interests – when you apply, be sure to share where you shine, what skills and experience you bring to the table, and how you see yourself plugging in. The types of projects you could be working on include: systems and educative experience design, digital publishing, design, programming, partnerships, communications, and more.
You can be located anywhere with wifi-- you will just need to be available to participate in phone meetings (during normal business hours EST and/or GMT, depending on your role and the team members you’ll be working with), and to conduct your work autonomously.
This part-time internship is an unpaid opportunity, best fit for someone who is eligible to get credit for their participation. In exchange for your support, the UnSchool will provide you with access to our online classes and resources.
How to Apply
If you are available 15 hrs/wk, May-September or June-September, identify with the description above, and are super keen to get involved with the UnSchool, we would love to hear from you!
